Some women feel more sexually aroused during their period and some feel no desire for sex at all. Either way is fine. If you feel like having sex during your period, it is perfectly ok to go ahead and enjoy it.
Sex during your periods
You needn’t feel grossed out if both you and your partner want to have sex at this time. The sensations in the pelvic and genital areas of your body feel different and some women find this arousing.
The blood and mucous give an added
feeling of lubrication that some women (and men) find sexy. The
proscriptions against sex during menstruation have not come from science but from religious or cultural ideas. As long as both of you are comfortable and aroused by the idea, there’s no reason not to go ahead.
Just follow some added precautions though because this is the time when the risk of infections is higher for you as the cervix opens to allow the blood and uterine lining out. Your partner needs to be careful because blood-borne infections like HIV and hepatitis can be transmitted at this time.
Make sure that your partner has no open wounds or cuts that could come in contact with menstrual blood. Also, if you are having sex with a man, don’t assume that you will not get pregnant. So, use a condom to prevent both pregnancy and infection.
To make it easier to clean up later, place an old towel below you and keep some tissue or toilet paper
handy. You might also not want to be too acrobatic to avoid getting
blood all over the place, but really, it is not like buckets of blood
will be flowing out. With a little practice, you will soon know how best to enjoy sex during your period.
